If I had a dollar for every time I overheard a guy's wife or girlfriend yakking about how she won at Tampa Bay Downs after simply betting the "prettiest" horse in the post parade, I'd be retired, soaking up the sun somewhere in the Carribean. The truth is that assessing pre-race body language is a critical part of the handicapping process. Many losers looked great on paper but failed to finish in front. And why is that? Racing luck? Maybe. Any one of a hundred things that annoyed or distracted the animal before the race, more likely. Simply gone off form, even more likely. Prudent handicappers look for assurances that what looks good on paper also looks good in the flesh. For more detailed information on pre-race body language, drop me an email. Seventeen days till opening day! Gotta go. I've got work to do.
