Tampa Bay Downs Selections - 01/05/08

Results 7-18 +$15.00 (7-2-0)

Bobbie's The Best won by at least four lengths demolishing the very weak field she ran with today. Next time out she'll definitely be facing better. Stay tuned.

Stash The Boots chased inside for a half mile then gave way. So it goes...

On Saturday, I've got Dixie Pipe (PP10) in the seventh. Winless Carl Cooper's horses are waking up suddenly (he had two double digit paying seconds in the last week) and it looks like he's pulling all the stops on this one. Racing out his class in his first two at the Downs, the Pipe showed brief speed before being thru early at 1 1/8 miles last week. Today he takes a huge drop in class, adds Centeno and blinkers and shortens up to 7/8ths of a mile. Dixie Pipe is the only horse in the race who has put up the par 72 performance expected for the win here (in fact he did it three times). Cooper is hungry and the price will be right.

In the ninth, it's Angler's Reef (PP2). This horse was 1st or 2nd in 5 of 6 starts at the Downs last season. He's been racing at a much higher level for the past six months and his debut at TBD was against the best in ALWNC company. Today he's where he belongs and looks to begin another campaign of domination. Gerry Bennett is great with once overs and usually produces in the sprint to route angle too! LA Gonzalez can get the job done here.

Good luck and good racing!

Johnny B.
