Tampa Bay Downs Selections - 02/28/09

Prime Wager Results.12-30 (40%) -$10.40(12-3-6) (70% ITM)
Soft Wager Results....16-51(31%) -$12.60 (16-12-4) (63% ITM)

On Friday, I had no prime or soft selections. Among my contenders only selections, my 6th race $8 exacta key box returned $19.00, my 8th race $2 saver exacta returned $11.80 and my 9th race $16 trifecta returned $96.00. So it goes...

Saturday’s selections:

1st – Contenders Only – Romagnola (4). Her DRF Beyer in last is 44. Johnny B. has a 29. Romagnola put up the only negative variant,
a -10, on a day when all the other dirt races had + variants, and the variant for the day was +5. On that basis, I’m throwing out, Romagnola and anybody else entered in that last race. That eliminates the 2,3,4,5,& 7. Forgiveandforget (6) last two were above par and Artz has a high ITM % with fastback types. Magical Isis (8) was above par in sprint two back and %E in that race indicated that she would have no problem stretching out to 8.18F. CJ’s Nannie was also above par in last two at the route. Exacta Key Box 6/8,9 and Trifectas 6/1,2,7,11,12/8,9

2nd – Contenders Only – Western Night (4) is in condition and may have the front to himself again. Arterburn is ITM 13 of 21 this season. Western Night is 9 of 13 ITM at Tam lifetime. Blazing Prize (2) drew off in last with sub-par fig. Allen wins 24% with fastbacks and 36% with rightbacks. I’m not enthusiastic. Soy Latino (3) lost momentum momentarily a furlong out then got through finishing powerfully and with plenty left to spare in last and with the only par fig in today’s race. Been away for 54 days though. Exacta Key Box 4/2,3 and Trifectas 3,4/1,6,8,9/2,3,4

3rd – Contenders Only – Rum Customer (3) was well above par in debut. Roho takes the return call. Tripstar (4) had sub-par debut and %E is near the upper parameter for 7F. Cape Marco (5) is well prepared for big effort first time out for Zito. He goes to one of the GP leaders Jermaine V. Bridgmohan to bring him home. Exacta Box 3,5 and Trifectas 3,5/4,7,8/3,5

4th – Contenders Only – Heat of the Night (8) was right there at 9F in last, an event that was originally scheduled for the grass. Just missed two back, with huge 11.34 final fraction at 8.5F on the turf. Roho takes the return call. Rebounded (4) has not had a firm course to race on since last April. Had great final fractions in those 3YO races. Is he still the same horse? Slomkowski is deadly with L4-8’s and Shippers. Win (8), Saver Exacta 4/8 and Trifectas 4,8/2,3,7/2,3,4,7,8

5th – Contenders Only – Ron’s Perennial (9) had two best figs among today’s starters and is very sharp now. Has no where to go but up. Premier Event (8) has beaten better than these and with superior figs. Early fractions in last on Feb. 12th at GP clearly indicate readiness this afternoon. Exacta Box 8,9 and Trifectas 8,9/1,2/1,2,3,8,9

6th – A soft wager – Mac Speed (10) was beaten badly in last but still had the best final fraction among today’s starters. Two back she was sub-12, the only one in today’s race. Goes for last year’s #2 trainer on the grass K O’Connell. Win (10), Saver Exacta 4,5/10 and Trifectas 10/All/5

7th – Contenders Only – Proud Style (2) had %E in debut that was outside the upper parameter for today’s 8.5F race and sub-par fig is discounted after he drew off. Exacta Key Box 7/1,3

8th – Contenders Only – Exacta Box 2,3,8 and Trifectas 3/All/2,8

9th – Contenders Only – Exacta 9/5, Saver Exacta 5/9 and Trifectas 9/2,3/5

10th – Contenders Only – Exacta Box 9,11/2,7 and Trifectas 9,11/1,2,4,5,8/2,7,9,11

11th – Contenders Only – Exacta Box 1,6/4,8

Good luck and good racing!

Johnny B.
