Tampa Bay Downs Selections - 02/08/08

Results 22-89 (25%) -$57.60 (22-9-12)

Yesterday, Can't Smoke Me ran second, beaten by Be a Believer on the wake up. Indian Suumer girl was third for a $46.20 tri. Why didn't I box them??? As I predicted, the smart money ruled with six favorites coming home first. So it goes...

We're about half was through the season and the red ink persists. 25% win ratio, 46% ITM. Somethings going right and yet I'm $57.60 in the hole. Today I start swinging for the fences and I feel really confident too. Get on board the Beaver's gravy train!

1st - Next Wonder (PP8), a soft wager. Two starts, two thirds, both at par. Simone wins off the claim from Ray Tamargo with Centeno aboard shortening up from 7F to 6.5F.

2nd - La Soldadita (PP8), a soft wager. The best of the worst. Demonstrated the ability to race forwardly and that's all that is needed to beat these.

3rd - Alie's Doublecross (PP12), a soft wager. Claimed from the master bomb maker, Carl Cooper in last, Alie has had a 2nd and a 3rd in five starts, last on off track. That's good enough for me. Switch to Centeno adds value.

4th - Time Well Wasted (PP3), a soft wager. Last was an aberration, is better than these, period. Thirty days rest give Danny Ogus an opportunity to work out the bugs. Fires today. Turn the Screw (PP1) and Supah Soup (PP4) complete the tri. Bet on it!

5th - She Takes the Cake (PP2), a soft wager. FTT was more than respectable from PP10. Was six wide on the first turn, was no match for the winner but saved the place. Better trip today gets it done with Irwin Rosendo riding for Robert Raymond.

6th - Awesome Attitude (PP1), a soft wager. A tough race but should handle these. Has had a well deserved three week rest. Beaten by the monster Blue Pepsi Lodge in last. Superior figs puts him in front for Jamie Ness in this Optional Claimer. Even a better bet if the favorite (remember these OC sprints on the dirt are won by the favorite 50% of the time). The shipper, El Bandito Rojo (PP2) is the competition. Bill White is no stranger to TBD. Saviano (PP5) deserves another chance for a piece.

7th - Starlet Sky (PP3) a soft wager. Right back for Dale Bennett. Any questions?

8th - Saratoga Tango (PP3), a prime bet. Nobody knows what this $115, 000 filly can do, but until she proves she's "not all that" she's got my money. Good luck to Myra Mora today. I hope you have a good one here.

9th - Beautifly (PP3), a soft wager. Placed first time out, a powerful statistical predictor of the winner's circle in second start. Sometimes you have to go with the numbers. Enough said.

10th - Seismatic (PP8), a prime bet. Finished third in a very competitive race on 1/3. Facing weaker today. Look for improvement and the win.

Good luck and good racing!

Johnny B.
