Tampa Bay Downs Selections - 12/17/08

Prime Wager Results 1-2 (50%) +$0.80 (1-0-0) (50% ITM)

1st – Contenders Only 1,5. Ottowise (5) had respectable debut at Del a month ago and his energy distribution in that race indicates potential to go longer. Adds Lasix and LA Gonzalez. Rexson’s Halo (1) may become the 8th winner out of Rexson’s Hope at Tampa in the last two seasons, if they can get him to leave the gate timely. This big dropdown may pop with Paco Lopez up. DD’s 1,5/3,5

2nd – A soft wager, Dandys Rosebud (3). DR is beginning to get the idea, as evidenced by her improving positions at the 1st and 2nd call of last two. The Layoff + Shipper + Shortenup angle is Griffith friendly. Excellent work from the gate on Dec. 13. Can Karlo Lopez bring it home? Win and Trifecta key 3/5,9,10/5,9,10.

3rd – Contenders Only 1,3,9

4th – Contenders Only 2,3,8

5th – A prime wager, MVP Grand (10). This lightly raced 3yo gelding has waited patiently for his connections to get real about his career path and to put a fast surface underneath him. This afternoon he finally gets both. Centeno will rate MVP Grand well enough to get him home first for Greg Griffith. Win and saver Exacta box 10/6,9.

6th – Contenders Only 4,9,10

7th - A prime wager, Right Flanker (7). Gerry Bennett is 25% (7-28) with the Layoff + Shipper angle in previous three seasons. Won with Right Flanker in first off layoff in Dec. 2006. Highest speed figures in the race. Workouts have been great. Keeps his regular rider Luis Antonio Gonzalez. It all adds up for me.

8th – Contenders Only 4,10,11

9th – Contenders Only 4,8,9 DD 4,8,9/9

10th – A soft wager, Wink Anda Blessing (9). Debuting against the speedy Edopapas Ekepapas was not such a great way to build confidence in this 2yo. However, Z Pattern indicates that he was eventually roused in that race, making up five lengths in the stretch. The firster was well backed in that race, going to the post at $4.80-1 . Leaves the Open Maiden condition and the care of Wayne Catalano for another competent trainer, Rick Slomkowski (31% with Maidens at Tampa). Leading rider Daniel Centeno is up.

Good luck and good racing!

I agree with your picks in the 5th and 7th, but I feel they will probably be way overbet and the underneath positions could be crowded with contenders. Hate to pass up any Tampa race for Right Flanker, but I'll wait 'til he goes off at longer odds, preferably going 7 panels. Good luck today!
