Tampa Bay Downs Selections - 01/13/08

Results 8-32 (25%) -$7.80 (8-3-1)

Yesterday's recap:

In the 7th, Lookinforthesecret put up a monster effort to make it clear that he is the reigning horse for the course at TBD, Finishing 1 click off the track record for 6F. You won't see a price like $7.40 again for this horse, even if he goes to the post on three legs. I'm a believer...

In the 9th, Danzeagle dueled to the stretch and faded.

In the 11th, Fleet Storm closed fast in deep stretch but was not up in time and was beaten by none other than the 12 and the 11 reminding me that on any given Saturday....

This afternoon, in the 5th race, Forest Fever (PP1) is my choice. Dale Bennett is great with dropdowns and the lightly raced Fever is ready for win number 3. Today he'll be racing at his lowest level ever and raced above par at the same distance on 12/18. Bennett was in the winners circle 42% of the time and 92% ITM with dropdowns last season. Montalvo rides again.

In the 7th, Carl Cooper wins with Psychic Star (PP5) who cost me last week with a huge effort after trying to steal a 6F tightener in ALW N1X at $27.70-1. Cooper will have to settle for 5-2 today because the jig is up for Psychic Star. It's payday for Pedro Morales today as he gets the call again.

In the 10th, Matcher (PP4) is in the winners' circle. Matcher raced forwardly and stopped in his last in an open C16 race won by Mr. D'Or with a fig of 95. I think matcher was being saved for another day. The 4-9 gelding certainly deserves another chance at the C5N2Y level. JA Velez Jr returns to ride and thats a good sign.

Be sure to visit the "Tampa Bay Ups & Downs" handicapping blog. Tom Williams knows what he's doing. (See it in the links of interest.)

Good luck and good racing!
