Tampa Bay Downs Selections - 2/5/08

Results 22-86 (25%) -$51.60 (22-8-12)

On Sunday, Brave Mizz was the beaten favorite, second to Harmony Found in the fourth. Poison Pill won by four. Mr. Mischief stopped as the favorite in the ninth and Florida's Quixote was DQ'd from second and placed sixth for interference after the start. So it goes...

On Tuesday, Fontana and Six Cross Roads receive a soft wager in the second. Last was on the off track and is excused. Prior race at 1 1/6 miles was respectable and showed the pace pressing ability often seen with Fontana's horses before the big win. Sheds six lbs. today. Much to my surprise the change in class from C8 N3L to C5 1Y represents a significant drop in class from a par 69 to a par 62 (or about four lengths at the distance). ITM 5 of 8 at TBD. It adds up. Fontana is overdue, too.

In the eigth, a prime bet. Grandpa's Brat (PP4) and Show Boatin' (PP6) face off for the third time this season, each taking one. These two are the only horses to compete at par for these conditions and I see no reason to expect anything different this afternoon. Grandpa's Brat (PP4) gets the nod having won at 6.5F, stretching out to 7F today, but this could go either way. A strong exacta box wager.

Good luck and good racing!

Johnny B.
