Results 21-82 (25%) -$46.00 (21-7-12)
Yesterday, everybody was off Phyl's Notebook ($10.40-1) who showed little. The winner had intense action throughout at the windows and I managed to hedge with the winning exacta but obviously was disappointed at the performance of my prime selection. Meredith Bee was flying late and should have won but Velez couldn't shift gears until it was too late. He cost me the pick four. So it goes...
On Sunday, in the fourth, a prime wager. Brave Mizz (PP4) has raced with better than these in all four career starts and finished third, closing a gap with a 74 in her last, her first time over. Further improvement from this 4yo filly is anticipated today and we'll see her in the winner's circle at about 1:50PM.
In the fifth, a prime wager. Poison Pill (PP6) returns to the dirt this afternoon where he put up an above par 68 two races ago (today's par is 63). Takes a big drop from C50 to C16. Unless there's a surprise wake up here, Poison Pill looks to be much the best. Willie Martinez gets the ride again for Dorris Thomas.
In the ninth, a soft bet. Mr. Mischief (PP3) has been knocking at the door with respectable performances in his first three starts. Will win if he likes the distance and the footing. A bullet work on 1/30 doesn't hurt. Montalvo rides again this afternoon for Anthony Granitz.
In the tenth, a soft wager. Florida's Quixote (PP11), that's right PP11, which has only produced three winners this season and has burned me three times. Quixote raced 5F two weeks ago and had a decent showing on the wet fast surface. Goes 6 1/2 today. She won at 6F at TBD last season and was 0-2 at 6 1/2F. I still think he can do it and he'll pay $20 too!
Good luck and good racing!
Johnny B.
