Whenever my selections finish second (it happened 30 times in 211 races this past season), I get to thinking that maybe there's money in backing up my win bet with an All/My Selection exacta wheel. Especially when some Black Swan beats me and the exacta pays over $100 (and that happened five times this past season). So I did the math.
On the face of it, it's a loser. In 2007-2008, the exacta wheel of my 209 selections would have required an outlay of $3,940 and the return was only $1,738, for a net loss of $2,203.
However, I'm going back to the calculator and I'm going to do the same analysis, only this time, I'm going to exclude all the races in which my selection was the betting favorite at post time.
Check in again soon for the results. My gut tells me they're gonna be goooood!
