Tampa Bay Downs 2007-2008 Season Analysis #4

Trainer Profiles - Spotlight on Charles Fontana

Starts 204 (13-19-20)

I've chosen Mr. Fontana because of all the trainers at Tampa Bay Downs, he is among the most enigmatic. With a 6% win rate in 2007-2008 and 12% in 2006-2007 there doesn't seem to be too much to write home about. But you need to look closer, to get his number.

To begin with, we see a 25% ITM last year and 34% ITM in the year before that.

Upon closer examination we observe that among the winners he did have, fifteen (15) of his thirty four (34) winners in the last two seasons were bombs, paying >$20.00.

His average place price last year was an astounding $11.80 and his average show price a whopping $6.80. (For all intents and purposes you virtually broke even if you bet Fontana to place in every start, an amazing feat.)

Now this is a guy who will make your head spin with his shenanigans. Up in class, down in class, stretch out, turnback, dirt to turf, turf to dirt, fast back, route to sprint, sprint to route and every conceiveable combination of the above.

But there are some things he's particularly good at. Email me at thetbdhandicapper@gmail.com and I'll provide you with a complementary Trainer Angles report for Charles Fontana.

The complete Trainer Angles report for the top 25 (give or take a few) trainers at Tampa Bay Downs will be ready for distribution before the 2008-2009 season begins.
