On Friday, my soft wager, Poundcake, won easily and paid $7.00. Among my contenders only selections, my 8th race $12 exacta box returned $24.80. So it goes...

We are now 1/2 way through the season and after 78 $2 win wagers, my prime and soft wagers are behind a mere $23.80. The best is yet to come and I will end the season in the green, so stay with The Tampa Bay Downs Handicapper.

Saturday’s selections:

1st – Contenders Only – Truly Broadway (2) and Mis Max (7) both had above par figs in last and both have high ITM % on the dirt. They outclass these. Exacta Box 2,7 and Trifecta 2,7/4/2,7

2nd – Contenders Only – R True Lady (4) just missed in first after long layoff and figures to be right there again. Win (4) and Trifectas 1,5,6,12/4/1,5,6,12

3rd – Contenders Only – Ottasea (5) was at or above par in last two and worked for both of them. Comes back fast and shortens up 210 ft. today and that may make all the difference. Exacta Key Box 5/2,7 and Trifectas 5/1,9,10,11/2,7

4th – Contenders Only – Trifectas 4,5/All/4,5

5th – Contenders Only – Blazing Prize (6) had best fig of all of these in last. Last work was one click above par for 4F bullet works. Allen is 32% win and 52% with dropdowns. He is also OK with stretchouts. Exacta Key Box 6/5,7 and Trifectas 5,6,7/2,4/5,6,7

6th – Contenders Only – Been Awhile (8) had above par final fractions in first two and shortens up a handful of lengths this afternoon and the distance change could make all the difference in races where success is measured in noses, necks and heads. Win (8) and Saver Exactas 1,3,12/8

7th – Contenders Only – Scottish Mystery (8). Above par fig in last (and the only above par fig in the field) gives Scottish Mystery the key position in my exacta box in this race. Exacta Key Box 8/3,4. and Trifectas 3,4,8/5,7/3,4,8

8th – Contenders Only – Win (3) and Trifectas 3,7/3,7/1,2,5

9th – Contenders Only – Bohemian Dream (5) working extremely well for debut for red hot Zwiesler. Darn Straight (7) had close to par effort in first over for Ziadie, further improvement can be expected. Exacta Box 5,7 and Trifectas 5/7/2,4,8,10

10th – Contenders Only – Lil’s Lassie (10). Sometimes one must let the conditions of the race dictate the handicapping methodology. Lil’s Lassie is a perfect fit here. Exacta Key 10/1,3 and Trifectas 10/5,8,9/1,3 and DD 10/10

11th – Contenders Only – Sami’s Magic (10) possesses the early speed to get the front and stay and shortens up today for new trainer Chris Gatis. Win (10) and Trifectas 1,4,6,7/10,12/1,4,6,7
