Tampa Bay Downs Selections - 02/22/09

Prime Wager Results.11-29(38%) -$11.60(11-3-6) (69% ITM)
Soft Wager Results....15-49(31%) -$12.20 (15-11-4) (61% ITM)

On Saturday, I had no prime or soft selections. Among my contenders only selections, my 5th race $8 exacta key box returned $29.80, my 7th race $8 exacta key box returned $19.80 and I had the winner of the 11th, Sami's Majic, $7.60. So it goes...

Sunday’s selections:

1st – Contenders Only – Ella Bee (1) has % early energy distribution that says the filly may be ideally suited to go longer. Exacta Box 1/All (if the price is right).

2nd – Contenders Only – Alie’s Doublecross (6) was above par in last two and takes a minor drop to get it done. Call On Joshua (3) has ideal early energy distribution to go back to 6.5F, but has all sub-par figs. On the other hand, Fontana is the master of disguise. You decide. Exacta Key Box 6/7,8 and Trifectas 3,6/1,2,7,8/3,6

3rd – Contenders Only – My calculator is getting a workout this morning. Jenna Lu Hu (8) has an early energy distribution that indicates that she could go 8.18F, but it is at the inside edge of the upper parameter. Was above par in last and that was only five days ago. Gets extra points for being in condition. Exacta Box 7,8 and Trifectas 7,8/All/7,8

4th – Contenders Only – Lightly raced Snow Salt (6) gets the nod on likelihood that he will get the front again and have it all to himself throughout. 7-11 ITM. Bennett/Mata team is 10-18 ITM. Exacta Key Box 6/1,4,7

5th – Contenders Only – Gnightsweetdarlin (6) was above par in 5 of 8 lifetime. Weakened in final furlong in last. Bound to improve. Slomkowski is 83% with fastback types. Centeno has the return call. Soaring Storm (5). Cibelli is always dangerous with Up In Class and Shippers. Had great work three days ago. Appenzell (4) is in condition and must be considered a contender. Exacta Key Box 6/4,5 and Trifectas 5,6/3,4,8/5,6

6th – A prime wager, Rubaiyat (10). Drew off smartly in debut at Tampa and with an above par fig. Routinely races with sub-12 final fractions. Nowhere to go but up for Clement and Centeno. Mass (5) had sub-12 final fraction in last and goes for KO’C who is great with grass horses. Roho gets the call. 1-34 lifetime record is a problem. Pop Panebianco (7) had above par fig in last and can’t be left out. Win (10) and Trifectas 10/5,7/All and DD’s 10/1

7th – Contenders Only - Crusader Rabbit (1) always above par at the distance and close up at the finish, gets there against a soft field this afternoon. Would be a soft wager, if not for Gerry Bennett’s 33% record in last two seasons going Turf-to-Dirt. Exacta Box 1,2 and Trifectas 1,2/All/1,2

8th – A soft wager - Fortunate Trail (6) was close to par in last and is routinely at or above par. Is 7-13 ITM at Tam. Ziadie/Homeister are 17-39 in the win department. Sneak a Cold Treat (4) has a nice clean record and had the 2nd best fig in last. Very Capo (3) won two sprints on the dirt and is in the hands of the wizard, Jamie Ness who is in 47% of all the exactas in which he has a starter. Last fig was soft for the 8.18F though. Win (6) and Excata Box 4,6 and Trifectas 6/All/3,4

9th – Contenders Only – Tip Along (1) won 38% of all her starts last year, made a good effort in last. Is poised to begin another winning campaign. Tarva (2) had a good fig in last but it’s got to be discounted given the margin of victory. Silkily (3) is 44% ITM lifetime and made good effort in last despite bobbling at the start. RoHo rides for Pablo Andrade who batted .250 in 2008 and has good success going Sprint-to-Route. Exacta Key Box 1/2,3

10th - Contenders Only – Exacta Key Box 4/1,7,10 and Trifectas 4,7,10/1,5,9/1,4,7,10

11th – Contenders Only – Hitch Your Wagon (3) is the only horse to show anything close to par in the recent past and all bets must be centered around her. Eventful Halo (8). Scace was 33% win and 60% ITM with L4-8 + Dropdowns in the last two seasons. It is one of her modus operandi. Exacta Key Box 3/1,8 and Trifectas 38/1,2,6,9/3,8

Good luck and good racing!

Johnny B.
